Municipal waste has contaminated every corner of the planet, from vast landfills to the “islands” of plastic adrift in our oceans. With rapid population growth and urbanization, there’s no end in sight: Municipal waste generation is expected to rise to 2.2 billion tonnes by 2025. That’s a footprint of about 2 kilograms per person, per day.
Deltaway’s experts believe that combining responsible waste reduction efforts with waste-to-energy (WTE) technology is a reasonable hybrid solution to two crises at once. Indeed, Europe (where we’ve worked for decades) leads the world in waste management with exactly this strategy, maximizing recycling and composting, while using the remaining waste to generate electricity with WTE.
